A high-ranking Russian general has been declared dead following an explosion in Moscow, according to official statements.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when an IED placed beneath a vehicle exploded, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
Authorities mentioned that one possible explanation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Location of the Attack
Personnel have been dispatched to the site, which is reportedly in a southerly district of the capital.
Media coverage state the detonation happened in a parking area adjacent to a residential building.
History of Targeted Attacks
Since the onset of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This new event follows other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a informant previously attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are never formally acknowledged as a matter of official stance.
The conflict has increasingly seen clandestine operations moving into the streets of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains ongoing.
