Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
