Canada Cleared of American Claims of Rigging Skeleton Olympic Selection Event
Canada's skeleton athletes have been absolved of charges that they rigged a selection race for the Winter Olympics, which allegedly denied rival athletes a chance to secure their place.

A prominent American athlete a five-time Olympian accused the Canadian squad of withdrawing four of its six competitors from a race in Lake Placid. The allegation was this reduced the field, making fewer qualifying points available. Although she took first place, the American athlete did not secure her qualifying position for the 2026 Olympics.
“Existing federation regulations permit National Federations to withdraw athletes from an event at any time,” stated the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF).
Following an investigation, the IBSF announced it would not impose sanctions, dismissing the complaints as no rules were broken of its code.
Canada's Explanation
Reacting to the claims, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton stood by the withdrawals, pointing to athlete welfare and the need for recovery. The organization stated that some athletes had competed extensively that week and the decision was “correct, transparent and in keeping with both athlete welfare and the integrity of the sport.”
Coaches from the US, Denmark, Israel, and Malta had voiced “deep worry” about the qualification process.
