Eulogies Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks following the shocking loss of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt ready to express about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has passed that I can now put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began spending more time together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded never-before-seen clips from the production, adding that he could not remember "one day without mirth".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge agreed to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A legal directive issued a embargo on the investigation to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a record listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the deaths, public personalities expressed varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive statements that were widely condemned by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his perspective to the detractors last week. Talking on his program, Rogan described the statements as "disturbing" and implied they demonstrated a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an adviser ought to have stepped in when the decision to speak on the passing was made.
