Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
