Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They create division, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
