The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Ipswich in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is currently.

"I possess a special job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

The coach agreed to a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this role like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy represented the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Wales striker is minded to finish the ongoing World Cup campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a productive European competition performance, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Given his present stance, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
