The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, making him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player in the world that I want up in that situation other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this game," he added.
Toronto's team secured the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
